Ganden Monastery, Tibet, 2011

Hi! I'm Ash.

Born + raised in the beautiful Taupo, New Zealand.

I studied at Victoria University of Wellington, NZ from 2010 - 2015 working towards a Bachelor of Architectural Studies (majoring in Architecture) followed by a Bachelor of Design Innovation (majoring in Industrial Design). During that time I played competitive netball, began teaching myself the guitar* + was fortunate enough to travel to Nepal + Tibet. It was while travelling that I was able to develop + establish my own drawing style that I continue to refine through my work as a freelance artist - I particularly enjoy drawing architecture + animals. Travelling to such culturally diverse countries inspired a number of my Industrial Design projects such as Clari-tea Singing Bowl (check them out!) which helped establish a need for my work to be driven by a story; a poetic notion.

Honest + simple + (God is in the) details + poetic. This is who I am as a designer. ("Quality, not quantity", I was always reminded).

I have a particular love of working with wood using both traditional + modern manufacturing processes (my father was completely excited/shocked when I told him I created something on the lathe) + believe that sustainability should be practiced where possible.

*So far so good
